Authorities are investigating after a child goes missing from a Marshall County elementary school Friday.
The second grade student is safe, and is back in school at this time.
School officials said he was missing for about 20 minutes Friday morning.
Marshall County School superintendent Fred Renzella, said the child had been at McNinch Elementary for breakfast, but did not show up in class .
Renzella said as soon as the school learned he wasn't in class, they immediately jumped into action, searching the building and announcing his name on the intercom.
After talking to the child, Renzella says they know when he heard his name being called to the office, he thought he was in trouble and got scared.
Authorities said he left the building through a side door.
Police say a bus driver called them after spotting a small child walking down Grave Creek Road with a backpack on.
The child was taken back to school, but went home with his guardians for the day.
As to how a child could get out of a school building un-noticed, Renzella said they are now addressing and reexamining the school's plan.
