The West Liberty University volleyball team's home opener was certainly worth the wait but it didn't last very long.
Coach Kayla Fetsko's fast-rising Hilltoppers blitzed an overmatched Pitt-Greensburg squad in three quick sets by blowout scores of 25-7, 25-14 and 25-8 before an appreciative Monday night crowd at the ASRC.
The easy win upped West Liberty's record to 9-7 in Fetsko's debut season at the helm and was accomplished in dominant fashion as four Hilltoppers were charted with more kills as individuals than the entire Pitt-Greensburg squad managed all night.
Anne Edwards led WLU with 13 kills, 3 blocks and a service ace while Rachel Zeigler added 9 kills and a pair of blocks. Nikki Sadecky weighed in with 8 kills and 2 blocks while Michaela Hawkins finished with 6 kills and 3 blocks. The visiting Bobcats (1-18) were charted with a total of just 5 kills on the evening.
Chelsea Byrge led all players for West Liberty with 24 assists, backed by Brittany Albanese's 13 helpers. Ali Kowalski and Gabbie Davis combined for 13 digs.
The Hilltoppers swing right back into action Tuesday at 7 p.m. with a trip to Vienna, W.Va. for a WVIAC match against Ohio Valley.
