$50,000 worth of prescription pills stolen overnight from Elm Grove Pharmacy

WHEELING -

A pharmacist entered the Elm Grove Pharmacy Friday morning to find the pharmacy was robbed overnight.

Authorities believe approximately $50,000 worth of narcotics was stolen at about 3:30 a.m. Friday.  Every prescription drug in the place had been stolen.

It appears two white males broke in the back door of the pharmacy, emptied out the trash from a waste basket and filled it with all the bottles they swept off the shelves.  Before entering, the thieves cut wires leading into the building for cable, power and phone.

"The Elm Grove Pharmacy was entered by some thieves who took some bolt cutters and cut every wire leading into the building, from the cable, the power, the phone, and then they kicked in the back door," said Deputy Chief Marty Kimball.

"Once the thieves entered the store, they ransacked the store actually taking what we believe at this point to be an approximate $50,000 worth of narcotics."

Kimball says the thieves must not have realized the security camera works on a backup battery because they were caught on tape.

That video is being taken to a crime lab in Morgantown to enhance the images.

Authorities said they were wearing hoodies, and probably also wearing gloves.
