This week, the Cardinals prepare for one of the biggest home matches of the season on Tuesday, October 2 at the Alma Grace McDonough Center. Wheeling Jesuit (17-1) will play host to Atlantic Region powerhouse California University of Pennsylvania (15-2) at 7 p.m., and the WJU Pep Band will get the event started around 6:30 p.m.
Over the last four seasons, the two regional giants have battled toe-to-toe in regular season play and in the NCAA Atlantic Region Tournament. The Vulcans lead the series 6-1 in the last seven meetings, sweeping the regular season matches. In 2008, Cal claimed the Atlantic Region title game and in 2009 defeated the Cardinals in the regional semifinal match. In 2011, the Cardinals won the Atlantic Region Championship.
In addition to the Atlantic Region battle, the Wheeling Jesuit Athletic Department will kick-off the NCAA Division II Make-A-Wish Foundation's Week of Wishes by selling ice cream cones and taking donations. All proceeds will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
