Wetzel County Sheriff James Hoskins has resigned. Wetzel County Commission appointed a new sheriff Tuesday morning.
Wetzel County Commission held an executive session at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday to decide who to appoint as sheriff.
According to Commission President, Don Mason, Hoskins turned in a letter of resignation Thursday Sept. 27. The letter stated that his resignation would go into effect at midnight on Sunday.
Mason says they needed to appoint someone to the position quickly so Wetzel County government is not interrupted.
"Prior to that appointment were are meeting in executive session to discuss personnel matters as to who we are going to appoint," he says. "I can tell you now that appointment will come from the Rank and File of the Deputy Sheriff of Wetzel County."
Wetzel County Commission decided that Michael Koontz will serve as acting sheriff until Dec. 31.
That's when the newly elected sheriff will take office.
Commission tells WTRF.com they are happy to have Acting-Sheriff Koontz in office. They say they trust he will do a great job for the citizens of Wetzel County.
