OVSH&E announced Thursday it will not partner with Community Health Systems. WTRF.com spoke to President and CEO Michael Caruso to learn what the next step is for the hospital.
Caruso said the two companies came to this decision mutually.
For the last 90 days they evaluated each other's organizations according to Caruso. Their goal was to determine if together they could provide better health care in for the community. In the end the original letter of intent was terminated and they mutually agreed to part ways based on what Caruso calls some "economic and market" factors and that the timing was wrong.
As for what is next Caruso says they are going to continue explore their options.
"There's always other opportunities that will spin off from this, so the answer is yes, we have some other opportunities that we're evaluating," he said. "They are in the premature stage at this particular time but we'll continue to look for a strategic capital partner."
Caruso said it is a great experience for their hospital to go through this process and the first one they have been. As for the two hospitals, he says they are standing alone on their own and have been for a number of years.
