The Wheeling Nailers wrapped up the preseason with an impressive 9-3 victory over the Cincinnati Cyclones at WesBanco Arena.
Wheeling forwards Ryan Maunu and Cam Fergus each scored a pair of goals. The Nailers scored six goals on nine shots in the second period, to open up a 6-1 lead. Chris Barton also scored a goal, his second of the preseason.
Nailers captain Paul Crowder looked to be in mid-season form with four assists. Matt Schepke added three helpers. Nailers goaltender Scott Darling stopped 12 of 13 shots, before being lifted for Michael Chiasson.
Wheeling will break training camp this week and open the season at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati next Saturday night. The Nailers are on the road for the first four games of the regular season, before coming home for the first game at WesBanco Arena on October 26 against Reading.
