Sunday marks the first day of National Fire Prevention Week.
In St. Clairsville, the Cumberland Trail Fire Department held an open house, welcoming the public for tours and demonstrations.
The event started with a flag-raising ceremony, led by an honor guard and two retired fire chiefs.
Firefighters urge everyone to think ahead and have two different ways to escape our home and workplace, and to keep our smoke detectors properly maintained with fresh batteries.
There was also a power company representative on hand, describing how many everyday activities can turn deadly because of electricity hazards. He urged adults and children never to touch an electrical sub-station, and never to overload electrical sockets.
