A local chiropractor has pleaded guilty on health care fraud and tax evasion charges.
According to the United States Attorney's Office, Joseph Yurigan, 62, of New Alexandria, Pennsylvania entered pleas of guilty to one count of health care fraud by submitting a fraudulent claim to a health care benefit program, and one count of income tax evasion for the year 2008.
Yurigan is licensed to practice chiropractic medicine in West Virginia and operated two clinics in the Northern Panhandle, including the Weirton Chiropractic Clinic, and the former Wheeling Spine Center.
Yurigan will make restitution of $513,373.92 for the health care violation, and $322,692.03 for the tax evasion violation as a part of his plea. He will not pay less than $501,639.57 toward restitution prior to his sentencing.
He faces a maximum of ten years behind bars and a fine of $250,000 on the health care fraud charge, and five years in jail and a fine of $100,000 on the tax evasion charge.
