ESMARK Steel CEO, Jim Bouchard, and Ohio Governor John Kasich are at the Yorkville steel plant Friday with some good economic news to share.
Both Bouchard and Kasich are there to recognize the completed acquisition of Yorkville and the Ohio Coatings Company.
Good economic news for the Ohio Valley as ESMARK Steel closes on the sale of the former RG Steel Yorkville Plant.
Industry sources say ESMARK wire transferred the funds to complete the purchase Thursday.
Once contract negotiations between Local union 1223 begin and an agreement is reached, workers can get back on the job.
Local Union President Jerry Conners still has some concerns.
"We are pleased that the environmental issues are actually taken care of. I'm very concerned going forward there has been no discussion with the companies as far as the local is concerned since last July," he said. "I am very apprehensive about our ability to be able to get a contract done."
Conners says they are waiting to begin contract negotiations with ESMARK.
7News went into the community and residents say this is great news for their town and for the Ohio Valley because it will create jobs and bring in money.
"Well we are very grateful actually for the judge for granting ESMARK the opportunity to open this mill again and to start hiring people back," said Yorkville Councilman Ronald Emerson.
ESMARK CEO Jim Bouchard and Ohio Governor John Kasich will be in Yorkville at 2 p.m. Friday for the big announcement of the recent acquisition of the plant.
