A walk to end Alzheimer's was held Saturday morning at Wheeling Park.
The event is the Alzheimer's Association's signature event to raise awareness and get support for individuals and families.
Alzheimer's disease is a growing epidemic across the country, and is now the nation's sixth-leading cause of death.
Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Coordinator, Wendy Hamilton says, "We're here to draw some awareness, let people know we are here and that they are not alone. We have support groups and a twenty-four-seven hotline you can call. We just want everyone to know we are here."
The local committee hoped to raise $21,000 to surpass the funds raised last year for the Alzheimer's Association, West Virginia Chapter.
Hamilton says they are very close to their $21,000 goal for the walk.
The Alzheimer's Association, West Virginia Chapter is the only health organization in the state dedicated to providing education and support services to individuals who are diagnosed with Alzheimer's. They also provide support to families and caregivers.
