St.Clairsville Red Devils Are Supporting Their Teammate

Posted: Updated:

It's one of those heart warming stories that almost seems to be to good to be true, like it's cut from a movie script. But the good news about this story is that it is true it did happen.

What is it you ask. Well two weeks ago a St.Clairsville freshman football player Logan Thompson lost his Dad to a sudden stroke. His teammates and coaches where trying to find a way to show him their love and support.

So when Logan told the coaches he wanted to suit up for their game that week head coach Brett McLean began to think of the perfect idea.He asked some of his players if they had a chance during the game to step out at the one yard line to allow Logan to come in and try and score. That's exactly what happened standout junior Michael Ferns did just that , yeah you know the kid being recruited to play at Michigan.

Ferns ended up being the lead blocker to escort Thompson in the end zone.

After the game Thompson tweeted; "Looking straight up into the sky after scoring my first varsity touchdown…i know the old man was watching! love and miss you so much daddy."

The story has received national attention, appearing in several publications and on the Internet.

Funny thing is it almost didn't happen at first the referees had ruled Ferns had scored , but after Dan Monteroso pointed out that he had stepped out at the one the play was able to happen. Our thoughts go out to the Thompson family for their loss.
