Trick or Treat Safety for Steubenville Residents

Posted: Updated:

Trick or Treat is Wednesday for Steubenville and Wheeling residents and many other places across the Ohio Valley. Everyone from children to law enforcement should take safety seriously.

Streets in Steubenville will be crowded Wednesday evening with little ghouls and goblins out trick or treating and of course law enforcement and parents will be taking the necessary safety precautions.

In Steubenville, Trick or treat will be celebrated Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.

The Steubenville police department will be out patrolling and Chief Bill McCafferty had some tips for  parents and kids heading out .

"Probably the main thing is traffic concern. It gets dark earlier with the light rain we are having right now there will be glare on the roads so watch out for cars and also motorists watch out for halloweeners they often dress in black makes it hard to see their costumes. Also, I highly recommend a parent to accompany at least their child or group of children its always good to have an adult to wait for them," says Chief McCafferty.

Other recommendations from the CDC include wearing reflective tape, carry a flashlight, stay in a group, walk on sidewalks and only eating factory wrapped treats.

Residents giving out candy to trick or treaters will also be taking precautions.

The precautions that I took were I didn't buy any candy that had peanut butter in it because some children are allergic to nuts so I stayed away from those type of candies," says Kathy McCarrick of Weirton.

Check the website for all trick or treat days and times because many of them have been moved to later this week and over the weekend.
