Local Organization Helps With Hurricane Sandy Relief

Relief for Hurricane Sandy is still taking place across the country and one local organization is doing their part to make sure people in New Jersey and New York have food and clothing.

Mingo Junction Knights of Columbus has organized a relief effort for victims of Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey and New York. They are working with the governor's office in New Jersey and the New Jersey food bank. They are accepting donations of non-perishable food items, toiletries, under garments, baby formula, diapers and clothing. They're also accepting monetary donations as well.

"You can call us at 740-535-8037 or my home number 740-284-9386 and if we aren't there, leave a message someone will get back to you or you can stop by the hall, it's legion drive Mingo Junction, Ohio," says Lou Kakascik, Outside Guard Officer.

A large donation is being made by Richard DeLuca who handles Project Share. They were able to get in touch with him through United Way. He has a warehouse of goods in Wheeling that he will be donating.

The organization has also received calls from as far away as Chilcothie, OH asking to donate.

They will be accepting donations 10 am to 6 pm until Sunday. Next Monday, they will be taking the donations to the distribution center in New Jersey.
