West Liberty University women's basketball standout Hillary Southworth has been honored as the West Virginia Conference Player of the Week after an outstanding performance in the season-opening Glenville State Classic.

The 5-10 junior guard from Twinsburg, Ohio, scored 56 points and grabbed a dozen rebounds as West Liberty split its two games at the weekend tournament.
Southworth got things started on Friday by pouring in a game-high 26 points as the Hilltoppers threw a scare into No. 6-ranked Edinboro (Pa.) before fading down the stretch in a 90-71 loss.
In Saturday's game against defending CIAA North champion Virginia Union, Southworth scored 20 of her career-high 30 points in the second half to help West Liberty pull away to a 71-66 victory.
Southworth shared WVIAC Player of the Week honors with Glenville's Ginny Mills.
The West Liberty women go back on the tournament trail this weekend when they travel to Shippensburg, Pa. for the Wolf's Bus Lines Classic. West Liberty opens against St. Augustine's (N.C.) Friday at 1 p.m. before taking on host Shippensburg in a 6 p.m. Saturday tipoff.
