Republican John McCuskey is holding on to an unofficial victory in Kanawha County.
The Kanawha County Commission met at 7 a.m. Nov. 13 as the Board of Canvassers to canvass the Nov. 6 general election.
The 35th district is represented by four delegates. McCuskey was unofficially declared the winner Nov. 6 over incumbent Democrat Bobbie Hatfield. McCuskey edged out the longtime legislator by 64 votes.
However, that margin narrowed after the canvass. Kanawha County officials declared McCuskey the winner by 41 votes, according to Kanawha County Manager Jennifer Sayre.
Other delegates elected to represent the 35th district are incumbent Democrat Doug Skaff, incumbent Republican Eric Nelson and Republican Suzette Raines.
Absentee ballots that were received by Election Day were counted and are included in the cumulative totals from election night results. Absentee ballots received at the voter's registration office between Election Day and the morning of the canvass were included in the canvass and the final cumulative official results.
According to state code, each county will declare its results once the canvass is completed. The election cannot be certified until 48 hours after the final county completes its canvass and declares its results.
