Delegate Bobbie Hatfield did not request a recount of Kanawha County's 35th House district votes after her challenger squeaked out a 41-vote victory.
Hatfield, a Democrat who represented Kanawha County in the 30th district, was redistricted into the new, four-member 35th District. She came in fifth, following incumbent Delegates Doug Skaff and Eric Nelson and newcomer Suzette Raines and John McCuskey. McCuskey beat Hatfield by 41 votes.
The Kanawha County Commission Board of Canvassers reviewed about 1,100 provisional ballots Nov. 13 and declared the results for McCuskey at 10:07 the following morning. According to state code, Hatfield had 48 hours to request a recount of the votes. However, that 48-hour window closed with no word from Hatfield.
The results are unofficial until they are certified by county officials.
