Wellsburg city officials will be seeing a much needed pay raise in 2013.
City Council moved 6-1 to raise the pay of whomever is serving after next year's election and voted 7-0 to raise pay for the mayor, collector-treasurer and city clerk at Tuesday's meeting.
Mayor Sue Simonetti says that it's been 16 years since they've received a raise in their pay.
"First of all, it should be noted that the pay raise is not for the individual, it is an increase for the position. Those positions have not been looked at for 16 years; council, mayor, and city clerk. It's been five years and council treasurer its been five years. Needless to say we are a little behind on that," says Mayor Sue Simonetti.
Council members regular meeting compensation will go up from $100 to $250, the mayor's monthly compensation will go up from $300 to $500 and city clerk will go up from $300-$400.
These pay raises will go in affect July 1, the first day of the new terms and mid-term for those who won't be up for election.
