Padlow Calls for Recount in Marshall County Commissioner's Race

MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. -

The results of Wednesday's Marshall County canvass named Robert Miller Jr. the commissioner elect after an election day mix-up. But Jake Padlow is not stepping down. He's filed to have the votes recounted.

A human error on election night showed Jake Padlow the initial winner for the commissioner's seat, but once the County Clerk's office realized the mistake, a canvass was held that determined Miller the winner by just 70 votes.

Marshall County Clerk Jan Pest says although the situation is unfortunate, she's positive a recount will return the same results.

"It's unfortunate, and I know how disappointed he is," she says. "I'm sick at heart for him, but the numbers are the numbers. It was just a human error in my office and we all make mistakes."

A date for the recount has yet to be set. Pest has until Tuesday to notify Miller of the recount request.

Padlow has posted the $300 bond for the recount. If the results remain the same he will have to pay for the recount. If the recount returns different results, Marshall County will cover the recount costs.
