The No.2 Magnolia Blue Eagles advanced to the West Virginia Class A Semifinals with a hard-fought 19-14 victory over No.7 East Hardy at Alumni Field in New Martinsville.
Magnolia senior quarterback Tanner Hanna ran for a pair of one-yard touchdowns in the first half, and junior running back Kage Rhode added a 10-yard touchdown run in the third quarter for the Blue Eagles.
East Hardy, 10-2, hit a 73-yard touchdown pass from Shawn Skovron to Josh Parker in the second quarter, and Skovron added a one-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
The Magnolia defense made several key stops in the fourth quarter, and had the Cougars pinned deep in their own end with under six minutes left. Throwing out of his end zone, Skovron was intercepted by Magnolia's Stephen Rogalski late in the fourth quarter, as the Blue Eagles ran out the clock from there.
The Blue Eagles, winners of 11 straight, will host No.3 Wahama (12-0) next weekend. The White Falcons defeated No.6 Greenbrier West 21-12 to advance.
