
WTRF.com is learning new details about a devastating house fire on Wheeling Island over the weekend.
Lieutenant Barry, the investigator in charge of the case, says they discovered the fire was started in the bedroom by a lit cigarette.
The homeowners attempted to put the fire out themselves before calling for help. Meanwhile the fire spread through the walls up to the second story of the home.
There were six people in the home when the fire broke out; two adults and their four children. The youngest child is just three years old. Luckily nobody was injured.
ORIGINIAL STORY
Fire crews were called to the scene of a house fire on the 400 block of North Huron Street on Wheeling Island around 8am Saturday.
According to Wheeling Fire Chief Larry Helms, the home is a total loss. Six people, two adults and four children were in the home when the fire started. All were able to get out safely.
Investigators are on scene to determine what started the fire.
