Belmont County drug bust results in 1 arrest

BELMONT COUNTY -

One man is behind bars after police seized drugs and cash from a residence Wednesday morning in Belmont County.

According to authorities the Martins Ferry Police Department, working with the Belmont County Drug Task Force , sent two under cover officers in a controlled purchase from a Joseph Lamont Saunders. Upon purchasing the drugs, officers obtained and executed a search warrant at 1024 south Zane Highway.

Tim Starkey with the Drug Task Force and the MFPD stated officers seized $6,074.91 in cash, nine cell phones, two four-wheelers, two laptops, drug abuse instruments and a 1997 Chevy Tahoe.

Saunders was arrested on two felony accounts of distributing crack cocaine and more charges could be filed at a later date. Authorities say he has previous drug felonies against him in West Virginia.

Saunders is residing in the Belmont County Jail. 

This was one of several cases that the drug task force was working on.
