
The No.2 Martinsburg Bulldogs captured a third consecutive West Virginia Class AAA state football championship with a 38-14 victory over No.1 Cabell-Midland at Wheeling Island Stadium on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.
Martinsburg senior quarterback Cookie Clinton passed for 127 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for 93 yards and a four-yard touchdown. He was named the Samuel A. Mumley MVP for his team.
Martinsburg running back Trey Boyd scored two touchdowns, including a Super 6 record 83-yard TD run in the first quarter.
Cabell-Midland senior running back David Gaydosz rushed for 133 yards and scored two touchdowns.
This was Martinsburg's seventh trip to the finals in the past 12 years, having lost four previous times.
