MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. -

Another controversial topic is up for a vote in Marshall County. A special election is being held for the school levy that's up for renewal.

Every five years since 1959, Marshall County residents have voted to keep the school's operational levy in place, but for the first time, some say it may not pass.

According to the school board, 100 percent of the money stays in Marshall County and pays for instructional equipment, technology, maintenance, salaries for teachers and more.

The school board says tax rates will not increase if the levy is renewed. However, some residents are concerned the levy rate is too high.

Marshall County Clerk Jan Pest says early voting on the levy started Saturday. Early voting continues until December 12, and the election will be held on December 15.
