Teams from throughout West Virginia competed Dec. 8 in the
2012 West Virginia First Lego League tournament at Fairmont State University, with
the theme of senior solutions.
Teams, made up of students between the ages of nine and 14,
presented research and programmed their robots in a series of challenges based
on improving the quality of life for seniors by helping them continue to be
independent, engaged and connected in their communities.
The First Lego League Challenge is made up of three parts:
the robot game, the project and the core values. More than 250 students from 56
teams were scheduled to take part in the tournament from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The tournament, open to the public, is sponsored through a
$10,000 grant from the West Virginia NASA Space Grant Consortium.
Teams include school groups, 4-H teams and community groups
along with Boy Scout and Girl Scout teams.
