Belmont County Sheriff's Race Protested Lucas - WTRF 7 News Sports Weather - Wheeling Steubenville

Officials at the Belmont County Election Board office confirm that they have received a protest of the county sheriff's race.

The complaint contends that sheriff-elect Dave Lucas was not qualified to run for the office. A contest of the election will also be filed with the Common Pleas Court, although officials there say it has not arrived yet.

Election Board officials say they will take up the matter on Monday in their regular monthly meeting.

Sheriff-Elect Lucas is reportedly in law enforcement training in Columbus. The individuals who filed the protest were not available for comment.
