HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - The Marshall University Foundation has received a $20,000 gift from Alpha Natural Resources.
The Virginia-based coal producer with operations in West Virginia presented the donation in Huntington on Tuesday.
Officials say the money will be used to support engineering majors in the College of Information Technology and Engineering.
The fund was originally established in 2009 as the Massey Energy Scholarship for Engineering with a 5-year pledge of $100,000.
Alpha bought Massey Energy Co. in 2011 and is continuing the commitment toward the pledge.
