The Nailers squandered a 4-2, third-period lead.
The Nailers did scored a power-play goal in its 11th straight game, off the stick of Luke Pither (8). Wheeling's Paul Crowder and Chris Barton each a goal, and both share the team-lead with nine goals on the season.
Greenville's Brandon Wong scored a pair of third-period goals against Wheeling netminder Peter Delmas to send the game to overtime.
Danny Hobbs beat Delmas in the sixth round of the shootout to preserve the victory.
The same two teams meet at the Bi-Lo Center on Friday night.
