The first of the two planned peaceful demonstration being held to show support for the alleged victim in the Steubenville rape case is taking place.
There are two protests planned and they are being called Occupy Steubenville. The first protest kicked off at noon Saturday with hundreds in attendance. The second demonstration will be held January 5, at the Steubenville City Hall at noon.
Organizers say the events are being held to show support for the victim. Organizers also say the city can no longer suffer oppression from corrupt officials. WTRF has yet to receive a comment from the city in response.
Meanwhile, a settlement has been reached in a Steubenville lawsuit that sought to unmask anonymous commenters who discussed a rape case on a blog.
The defamation accusations against the blogger, Alexandria Goddard, were also dismissed and cannot be re-filed.
The suit was filed two months ago by a Steubenville high school student and his parents after the teen was written about on the blog and accused of being involved in the reported sexual assault of a 15-year-old West Virginia girl in August.
