The Elmira Jackals ended the Wheeling Nailers six-game home winning streak with a 3-2 win on New Year's Eve at WeBanco Arena.
Luke Pither scored his 10th goal of the season, and eight since being assigned to Wheeling from Trenton in mid November to tie the game a 1-1, after one period.
Wheeling's Andrew Hotham, scored a power-play goal, his sixth of the season and fourth since he was acquired from Cincinnati a month ago, to give the Nailers a 2-1 lead.
But Elmira's Jordan Pietrus, took a beautiful feed from Kevin Harvey to tie the game at 2-2 in the second period. Dustin Gazely set up Jack Downing for the game-winning goal, a power-play goal, in the late stages of the second period. It was his second goal (12) of the game.
The Nailers put 45 shots on Elmira goaltender Maxine Clermont, but he made 43 saves, and was awarded with the No.1 star of the game.
Peter Delmas took the loss for Wheeling, and made 34 saves.
