OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. -

One man is in custody after attempting to steal merchandise from a Cabela's Outfitter that totaled more than $1,500. Authorities arrested 39-year-old Arthur Kasey Gabbard of Crown Point, Indiana after Loss Prevention Staff at the store caught him on camera removing items from their packaging.

According to reports, Deputy Josh Moore was called to the Highlands store Friday and was met by a member of the Loss Prevention Staff. The staff member then informed Moore that Gabbard was caught on camera allegedly removing items from their packaging and placing them into his pockets and that he was still in the store.

Moore then witnessed Gabbard allegedly removing price tags from lower priced items and placing the tag on higher priced items. After Gabbard was witnessed passing the last point of sale he was approached by Loss Prevention and taken into custody, authorities say.

The total of the merchandise came to $1,576.93 before taxes. Gabbard was arraigned by Ohio County Magistrate Joe Roxby and taken to the Northern Regional Jail on $5,000 bond.
