West Virginia is adding a commemorative coin to the celebratory mix for its 150th birthday, the commission overseeing the sesquicentennial activities announced Saturday.
The state's preparation for and response to emergency weather situations is taking center stage at a public informational meeting.
Sen. Greg Tucker, D-Nicholas, will host the meeting 10 a.m.-noon Jan. 26 at Elkins City Hall to talk with the public and other officials about preparation and response following two huge weather events last year. The town hall-style meeting will allow the public to ask state officials about emergency response plans and voice their opinions for consideration in the development of future preparation and response plans.
Sen. John Unger, D-Berkeley, Sammy Gray of First Energy, West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Director Jimmy Gianto, Major General James Hoyer, Adjutant General of the West Virginia National Guard and Marvin Murphy, assistant deputy secretary of the West Virginia Department of Transportation, will join Tucker at the meeting and be available for questions.
Elkins City Hall is located at 401 Davis Ave., in Elkins.
