Bethany College President Scott Miller has been outspoken in favor of tighter gun restrictions. He says this issue hit close to home about month ago, when 6 year old Caroline Previdi, the daughter of 1994 Bethany Alumni Jeff Previdi was killed at Sandy Hook Elementary.
Since then, Miller has signed three different initiatives along with hundreds of other university leaders calling for stricter gun regulations especially on campus.
Miller says he applauds President Obama and Vice President Biden for taking quick action on this important issue after the tragedy at Sandy Hook. He hopes to serve as a leader of discussion on gun control in this area.
"We are very much respectful of Second Amendment rights," he says. "In fact, a number of the presidents that have signed on are members of the national organization that's taking the opposite side of this issue. There's a difference between Second Amendment rights and the military style weapons, and the amount of ammunition people hold."
Miller says Bethany currently has a no tolerance policy when it comes to guns on campus.
