ROMNEY — The 15th Senatorial District Democratic Executive Committee met in Romney Jan. 18 with the sole purpose of choosing three names to be considered to replace former Sen. Walt Helmick.

Judge Donald H. Cookman of Hampshire County, Mike Ross of Upshur County, and Tom Hawes of Hardy County were the final three names following a vote from 18 committee members representing nine counties.

Other names nominated included were Lisa Amoroso, Charles Sheetz and Margaret Beckwith.

The three names chosen by the committee will be submitted to the governor.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin has five days to pick one of the names submitted by the committee for Helmick's position.

The person chosen would have to run for election in two years.
