Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York recently sponsored a soft play area at a nearby shopping center to help share wellness tips and to build its brand awareness in the community.
Executive Director Kevin McGeachy explained the sponsorship by saying, “Being a hospital, we have to figure out where we stand on wellness and prevention. It would be nice if we could close the hospital because we’re so great at preventing illness. This sponsorship not only helps our brand because kids then associate our name with fun, but it gives us a continuous means of outreach and wellness education.”
The new indoor playground is located at Smith Haven Mall, which is in Lake Grove, NY.
“The play area has received more positive feedback than any other amenity that we’ve introduced at Smith Haven Mall,” says Ashley Jacobsen, Smith Haven’s Director of Marketing and Business Development.
McGeachy says he first read a magazine article about a hospital-sponsored play area in West Virginia and he promptly called his marketing team.
“I see this as a great way for us to leverage our brand and to achieve our community outreach goals,” says McGeachy. “If it was just a play area with no opportunity for us to do education and prevention, I’m not sure I would have been interested. This play area gives us high, high visibility.”
Cohen Children’s Medical Center regularly hosts events at the play area, such as its recent Medical Build-A-Bear workshop. The hospital also hosts car seat safety workshops and other health/safety events.
