Wheeling Jesuit University is partnering with Wheeling Central Catholic High School to turn LaRosa Field on the WJU campus into the new home of the Maroon Knights football team, and that could happen as early as next season.
The two catholic schools are working to raise the $1.3 million necessary to tear out the grass and put in turf from Deluxe Athletics out of Marietta, Georgia.
The field will be home to Wheeling Jesuit soccer, lacrosse, and rugby, and will also have football lines painted on it.
Even though Wheeling Jesuit University doesn't offer football as one of it's 20 varsity sports, it may in the near future.
Athletic Director Danny Sancomb says they also want to put turf on the practice soccer fields at the upper end of campus.
Work could start soon, once the money is raised.
