HUNTINGTON, WV — Marshall University's Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine has been looking for new space where it can grow its rapidly expanding biomedical research program. Now, it's found the space it needs – at the university's Forensic Science Center Annex.

The American Lung Association in West Virginia will host a stair-climbing competition on March 23 to raise awareness for the 35 million Americans who have various types of lung diseases.

The 2013 Huntington Fight For Air Climb is the tri-state area's only stair-climbing competition, according to information from the association. It will take place from 8 a.m. until noon at Marshall University's Joan C. Edwards Stadium, 2001 Third Ave.

During the competition, participants, teams or individuals will climb up and down the stairs of the stadium. Participants are asked to raise $100 to climb and pay $25 to register. All proceeds support lung disease prevention programs, research and advocacy efforts.

The climb is sponsored by All Med, Suddenlink Media and Clear Channel Radio.

"Whether climbing for a winning time or simply to cross the finish line in honor of someone with lung disease, this event is a great physical challenge," Chaste Truman Barclay, development manager for the American Lung Association in West Virginia, said in a news release. "Finishers will have a newfound respect for healthy lungs!"

Climbers will be professionally timed, but there is no time limit when climbing, according to Barclay. The Lung Association also will host a health fair and kids' fun zone at the event.

To register, contact Barclay at 304-342-6600 or at cbarclay@lunginfo.org, or visit www.lunginfo.org/huntingtonclimb
