JP Morgan Chase & Co. is providing $51,000 in scholarship money for students in the Middle College High School program at West Virginia Northern Community College.
The Middle College High School Program is a mentor-based high school program based on a community college campus. The program began in 2009, and since then, students in Brooke, Ohio and Marshall counties have attended high school classes at WVNCC through the support of local school systems.
Many students expressed their gratitude for the funding.
"We're really happy to be getting this donation today because even though I'm a senior this year," said Maia Goddard, a Middle College Student. "I know that money's going to help out so many kids that are coming in the future."
Dr. Martin J. Olshinsky, WVNCC president, said of today's announcement, "This generous commitment by Chase will benefit many of our Middle College High School students who have demonstrated they can successfully complete college courses. With a vibrant program on the Wheeling campus, and the program's expansion to the Weirton campus, demand for college credit courses has increased dramatically and so has the need for additional scholarships."
