CHARLESTON (AP) — State Treasurer John Perdue's
office is using newspaper inserts this month in an attempt to locate
people with unclaimed property.
The office is placing the inserts
in newspapers throughout the state starting next week. The insert contains
13,000 names representing assets worth at least $50. None of the names
have been advertised before.
The newspaper inserts are done twice a year, and Perdue says the responses they generate keep his unclaimed property staff busy.
By state law, the largest newspapers in each county receive the inserts.
Examples
of unclaimed property include forgotten utility deposits, a final
paycheck from an employer or unredeemed stock dividends.
