W.Va. Miner Killed in Accident Is Identified

West Virginia authorities have identified the miner who was killed in an accident at the Blue Creek Prep Plant.

34-year-old Brandon E. Townsend of Delbarton died Wednesday after a hydraulic jack exploded on a belt press. Another worker was injured.

 


 

ORIGINAL STORY:

An order has been issued to close a coal mining plant where a worker was killed in an accident last night.

The plant will be closed while a federal official investigates the accident. The accident occurred at the Blue Creek Prep Plant, a facility that prepares coal for transportation down the river.

Witnesses say the miner was killed when a hydraulic jack exploded on a belt press. A second miner was injured, but there is no word on their condition.

According to MSHA, there have been no fatalities at this facility prior to this one and The West Virginia Office of Miners Health and Safety Training is looking into the explosion.
