A natural gas
transmission line will be extended under the Brooke County Pioneer Trail about
a half-mile south of the Wheeling Culvert Plant near Beech Bottom in the near
future.
The commission agreed to
enter into an agreement with MarkWest Midstream and Resources, in which a line
will be run from a portion of Ohio under the Ohio River and into the south end
of Brooke County.
Commissioner Jim
Andreozzi says they are proud of their trail so if any damage is done they made
sure that MarkWest will make all repairs.
"We can work hand in
hand with them we want to open the county up to these people because this
commerce is going to be in the area for at least 10 years the gas I've been
told is going to be running through the pipelines for at least 30 years," he
said. "So were very positive about this and we think this is a great
opportunity for the people in Brooke County."
This project will only
affect commuters that use the trail for one day when MarkWest begins tunneling
60 feet below the ground.
The Brooke County Commission will receive about $2,000 for allowing the pipe to be brought into their county, money they plan to use on bettering the trail.
