A desire to carry a concealed weapon has spiked in our region according to law enforcement.
Right now, men own and carry more guns than women, but this trend is shifting. Experts say anywhere from 15 to 20 million women in the U.S. now carry a concealed firearm.
WTRF spoke to firearm instructors who say they are seeing more women enrolled in their safety classes than ever before. Some instructors point to the rise in crime against females as the reason for interest in self defense. Others look to the national gun debate sparked by the Sandy Hook school shooting.
Either way, some women say they're interested in more than just arming themselves, they say they want to know how to do it correctly.
