The Wheeling Hospital/OVAC Boys Basketball Championships are set for this Saturday at Ohio University Eastern.
Four of the top five seeds have advanced, including St.Clairsville in Class 4A.
The top-seeded Red Devils disposed of a depleted Martins Ferry team, playing without leading scorer Cody Schau and Tyler Strama. Dan Monteroso scored 31 of his game-high 37 points in the first half in the 76-48 victory. No.2 seed Steubenville Big Red advanced in the other 4A semi with a 77-41 win over Harrison Central.
In 3A, Magnolia avenged two losses this season against River, with a 72-45 victory over the Pilots in New Martinsville. 6-6 junior Zach Wilhoite led the Blue Eagles with 22 points, senior Mark Winters, a Wheeling Jesuit recruit, had 19 points, with freshman point guard Preston Boswell adding 18. Seniors Brett Price and Cody Caldwell each added 12 points for the Pilots.
In 2A, Wheeling Central went to Blacksville, and defeated Clay Battelle 72-60, behind 26 points from freshman sensation Chase Harler. The No.3 seeded Maroon Knights will meet No.1 seed Steubenville Central, a 81-42 winner over Cameron. Ryan Fletcher led the Crusaders with 22 points.
In Class A, Bishop Donahue defeated Beallsville 73-66 behind 17 points from Bryce Jones, Josh Miller added 15 points, and Jesse Padlow contributed 14 points. Teryn Jarrett lit up the Bishops for 32 points, including five 3-pointers. The Bishops will meet Conotton Valley in Saturday's final. The Rockets hammered Paden City in Sarahsville 80-41, behind 24 points from senior Brandon Bailey.
Class 5A, Indian Creek lost at Parkersburg South 57-54, while No.2 University defeated top-seeded Morgantown 52-40 in double-overtime.
