Magnolia High School senior Mark Winters has been selected as the Robinson Auto Group Athlete of the Week.
Winters, a Wheeling Jesuit University recruit, scored a game-high 30 points and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds, in the Blue Eagles 75-53 win over No.1 seed Buckeye Trail in the OVAC Class 3A championship game played last Saturday at the Physical Education Building on the campus of Ohio University Eastern.
"It was a really good week," said Winters. "Coach (Dave)Tallman kinda got on me and lit a fire under me, after a bad first quarter, and I just did what I could from there."
Winters scored 19 points in the OVAC semifinal win over River, as the Blue Eagles avenged two regular-season losses to the Pilots. He put an exclamation point on the win with a breakaway dunk.
Winters, the OVAC's leading scorer at 31 points per game, scored his average in a win over Clay-Battelle last night in New Martinsville, as the Blue Eagles improved to 15-4 on the season.
