Bring your family and friends to Pipestem Resort State Park February 23 and enjoy musical performances by park staff family and friends. The program is open to the public without charge and begins at 7:30 p.m. in the McKeever Lodge conference center.
"The evening ‘With Family and Friends' will include some Hank Jr.-like songs, but these not-so-rowdy friends will be sipping cocoa and being part of a program presented by staff members at Pipestem Resort and some kin," said Tammy Mansfield, the personnel officer at Pipestem Resort, gospel singer and a resident of Summers County.
"It's a way of introducing some of our park staff to guests and visitors doing something we all enjoy immensely – singing and sharing music."
Other talented park employees performing include Lindsay Brown. Park guests will recognize Lindsey as a member of the front desk staff. She plays piano by ear and sings in a gospel and bluegrass style and also is a Summers County resident.
Assistant Superintendent Nathan Hanshaw has been writing and singing his songs for about five years. A current resident of Summers County, Hanshaw has written a song about West Virginia's statehood and will debut the "We Stand Not Ashamed" at the event. Hanshaw grew up in Nicholas County and has served at Carnifex Ferry, Panther Wildlife Management Area, and Twin Falls prior to his assignment at Pipestem Resort.
Chris Treadway of Raleigh County is joining the Pipestem staff members and is a country and vocal jazz singer. The gathering will last about an hour and the audience can meet the staff following the concert.
"With Family and Friends" weekend offers a split rate on Friday and Saturday nights, Feb. 22-23 at McKeever Lodge. The Bluestone Restaurant at Pipestem features seafood buffet every Friday. Individuals planning to attend the 7:30 p.m. program Saturday are extended a dining room discount that evening and the voucher is available at the front desk.
