Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., has another new staffer on board.

Manchin announced Feb. 25 Hayden Rogers, a former candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in North Carolina and former chief of staff for Rep. Heath Shuler, D-N.C., is his new chief of staff.

"Hayden will be a tremendous asset to our team, and I am thrilled to have him on board," Manchin said in a news release. "From his time as a small business owner to his work in public service, Hayden brings to our office a unique range of talents and a common sense, solutions-driven approach that I truly admire.

"He embodies the values important to West Virginians and has the knowledge, experience and expertise to lead our team effectively."

Prior to this appointment, Manchin's acting chief of staff was Mara Boggs, who was named to replace Chris Kofinis, who left in March for the private sector.

According to a news release from Manchin's office, Rogers was a "top-tier candidate" in his 2012 congressional run, and he managed three successful campaigns for Shuler. Rogers also owned a small business involved in construction, real estate management and landscaping.

"Senator Manchin represents the values and principles that I have long admired," Rogers said in the news release. "He is a strong voice for the state of West Virginia and its people, and a prominent advocate for the changes we need to ensure a positive future for our great nation."

Rogers is a native of Robbinsville, N.C., and a graduate of Princeton University, according to Manchin's release. Rogers and his wife, Dr. Donna Tipton-Rogers have two daughters: Torin, 9, and Lochlan, 7.
