Linsly Rallies to Win State Hockey Title Behind Freshmen

Posted: Updated:

Linsly School freshman Luke Edgerton, the son of former Wheeling Thunderbird great Devin Edgerton, scored four goals and added two assists in the Cadets, come-from-behind, 8-5 win over Wheeling Park, to claim the Bob Otten Trophy as the West Virginia state champions.

The Patriots built a 4-2 lead, led by sophomore Michael Grove, who had a hat trick and was named the game MVP. The other Wheeling Park goals came from seniors Derek Smith and Nicco Catalano, who scored four times in the semifinal.

Edgerton, who broke all the Linsly scoring records this season, was named the Tournament MVP.  Freshman Kaden Cook added a pair of goals for the Cadets, including an empty-netter.  Linsly senior Zach Herron contributed a goal and three assists, and freshman Jordan Patrick started the scoring with a first-period goal.
