Human Rights Commission Supporters Turn Out at Wheeling Council Meeting

Posted: Updated:

It was a packed house at Wheeling City Council on Tuesday.

Several people wishing to be heard on behalf of the Wheeling Human Rights Commission.

WTRF learned last week that the proposed budget for next fiscal year, includes a decrease in funding for the commission.

Last Tuesday, the commission's only paid employee, Terry Garrett, found out that her salary, the $20,000 dollars in funding from the city's CDBG funds, would be dropped down to $7,000, if the proposed budget passed, as is.

Supporters rallied in support of the commission, and addressed city council on their disappointment in the decision. Many of them, asking the mayor to reconsider.
