Many times when we hear about our elderly neighbors being abused, we just think of the physical abuse, but under a bill endorsed by Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, those who engage in financial and psychological abuse of the elderly would face jail time.
DeWine tells 7News that this bill would expand the current law to cover those other areas of elderly abuse.
DeWine said one of the provisions of the bill is that it requires that people who have information that an elderly person might get ripped-off, that they have to report it.
He added that the Ohio Elder Justice Act would do everything it can do protect senior citizens from both physical and financial harm.
7News and WTRF.com will continue to monitor the progress of this legislation.
