Gender scholar Michael Kimmel will serve as guest speaker at West Virginia Wesleyan College on Tuesday, March 19 in conjunction with Social Justice Week.

Sponsored by the Gender Studies program, Kimmel will deliver his address, "Mars, Venus, or Planet Earth? Men and Women on Campus in the New Millennium" at 7 p.m. in the Virginia Thomas Law Center for the Performing Arts in Buckhannon.

Author and editor of over 20 texts on gender issues, Kimmel recently was awarded a MacArthur Grant to establish the Center for the Study of Men and Masculinities at SUNY Stonybrook. He has been featured on major media outlets such as CNN and his work has been reviewed by The New York Times and The Washington Post.

Kimmel's knowledge of gender issues has garnered him invitations to speak in multiple countries, including an address about men's investment in gender equality before the European Parliament on International Women's Day.

A reception will follow.

Kimmel's talk is a centerpiece of the Wesleyan Center for Community Engagement and Leadership Development's March 18 – 22 Social Justice Week, an event that raise awareness toward transformation in gender equity, health and wellness, poverty and hunger, environmental and climate justice and animal welfare.

By featuring events that focus on each of these issues, Social Justice Week illustrates the interconnectedness of injustices and the necessity of confronting injustice holistically with an intersectional approach.
